I need the translation because there are some parts of each entry that were systematically omitted by the Author, like the classification of each drug within Chinese medical theory (like 味甘微温  = "[red roosters] are sweet and slightly warming"), alternative (Chinese) names, its "provenance" (like 生平泽 = "[red roosters] grow on plains and marshes"), and some other occasional information that made sense only locally (like 东门上者尤良 = "[the heads of the red roosters] that were hung above the East Gate are particularly good for repelling demons").
Are all of these sections later additions or would they have been present in the SBJ when this dictation took place?
The fields would have been present in the text available to the Dictator, and would have been marked as "SBJ Original".  Presumably the Dictator had been instructed to skip those fields, or the Author understood enough of the dictated text to identfy them as "uninteresting" and pause the writing though them.  Or, back home, the Author struck those parts out from his draft before giving it to the Scribe. After I finish cleaning up and parsing each ZHB entry with the help of Google AI, those fields are still there. I must remove them myself when preparing each recipe for my matching programs. Like, here is what the "peach kernel" recipe looked like after cleanup, with extra punctuation to help parsing:      # (60 hanzi)   # 桃核:[味]苦,平。 The following parts are instances of fields that seem to have been systematically omitted by the Autho: #[味]苦,平   "[Flavor:] Bitter, neutral",  #[]微温。 "[Nature] Slightly warm" #[生]川谷  "[Grows in]  Rivers and valleys" The"neutral" means neither "warming" nor "cooling" in the context of Chinese medical theory.  The second item above is a rare case of an omission in the middle of the entry, and lacks the keyword 味 that should have been there.  It can be identified only by considering its meaning; that's why I need the translation.  Anyway, this is what I give to my matching program:   # (trim)   # 桃核:[主]瘀血,血闭,瘕,邪气,杀小虫。   # 桃华:杀注,恶鬼。令人好颜色。   # 桃枭:杀百鬼,精物。   # 桃毛:[主]下血瘕,寒热,积聚,无子。   # 桃蠹:杀鬼,辟邪恶,不祥。 Then I also must specify the cribs that it should look for. There they are 主, 气, 令, 主 and their respective tentative "translations" into Voynichese, including allowed "typos" and variants (and the penalties for using the latter) The main output of the program is  a list of the best-matching SPS parags:   > f114r.4  (1.964) @daiin,@shedy,@chd,@daiin  (0.600) -26  +2,-1,-4,-11,-9   > f104r.30 (2.054) @dain,@chdy,@chedy,@kaiin  (1.000)  -5  00,00,+9,00,-13   > f114r.28 (3.657) @daiin,@chdy,@cheod,@daiin (0.300)  00  +15,-7,-7,+6,-6   > f115v.24 (3.940) @sain,@chdy,@chedy,@lain   (1.400)  -3  +11,-7,+1,+6,-12   > f107v.45 (5.173) @kain,@shedy,@ched,@daiin  (0.800) -16  -3,-13,-1,-2,+6   > f108r.24 (6.629) @laiin,@chda,@ched,@taiin  (1.700)  +3  -8,+2,00,00,+12 The first number in parentheses is a "badness of match" score.  The value 1.964 for the best match, f114r.4, means that the match is still not very good; but the other are worse.  The "-26" on that line means that f114r.4 is 26 EVA letters shorter than what was expected given the length of the recipe which was ~60 × 6 = 300 letters. The signed numbers after that are the similar errors (also in EVA letters) for the lengths of the gaps between the "cribs". While f114r.4 got the best score, the most likely match is probbaly f114r.28. Its full matching report is 3.657 263(+0) 0.300 26(+15) 1.651 pchedaiinsoeailchotarqokee daiin 23(-7) 0.879 olkaiinopdaiinotoldaiin chdy 38(-7) 0.533 tedaiinaiiinaiiincholoeedykeedychcheky cheod 72(+6) 0.206 eeykeedeedydaiiinaldaiinarsholchedyotchedyqotyychedarokeedylkeedeaiinoee daiin 85(-6) 0.087 qoaiinykedyokaiinolkeedyqoainainokeeyraiinsaiiinaiincheedainokaiinotedyqokeedainorain It got penaized because the first gap (before the first daiin) is 15 EVA letters longer than expected. In the recipe it is just 桃核 "peach kernel", so in the SPS it should have been 114 !!! The lkeedeaiin should have been lkeed.aiin -- check image !!!
