An explosion Tuesday night on an oil drilling rig off the coast of
southeast Louisiana left at least seven people critically injured and
11 others missing.  A spokesman for Plaquemines Parish said that the
11 missing workers had been found by rescuers before noon Central
time, but a spokesman for the Coast Guard said he was not yet able to
verify the rescue. year

The Coast Guard said Wednesday that seven workers had been critically
injured. Later in the day, West Jefferson Hospital in suburban New
Orleans said it treated four people, three of whom had been
released. The University of South Alabama Medical Center said it was
treating one person in its burn unit and evaluating five others.
O'Berry said many workers who escaped were being brought to land on a
work boat expected to arrive Wednesday evening.  When the explosion
happened, the rig was drilling but was not in production, according to
Greg Panagos, spokesman for its owner, Transocean Ltd. in Houston. The
rig was under contract to BP PLC. BP spokesman Darren Beaudo said all
BP personnel were safe but he didn't know how many BP workers had been
on the rig.

President Barack Obama said Wednesday that he will not insist that his
Supreme Court nominee pass any "litmus tests" over supporting abortion
rights, but made clear he will choose a candidate who will consider
personal privacy and women's rights when ruling on cases.  "That's
going to be something that's very important to me," Obama said in
response to a question about a woman's right to choose.  "I think part
of what our constitutional values promote is the notion that
individuals have protection in their privacy, and their bodily
integrity, and women are not exempt from that," Obama said.

Australia is among nations that will continue leading the world in
raising borrowing costs as its economy accelerates amid a surge in
demand for commodities from China, according to the International
Monetary Fund.  Gross domestic product will rise 3 percent this year
and 3.5 percent in 2011, the IMF said in its latest world economic
outlook published today in Washington. In January, it forecast
Australian GDP growth of 2.5 percent and 3 percent respectively.

AMR shares were down 30 cents or 3.5 percent at 8.26 at midday on the
New York Stock Exchange, after falling as much as 5.5 percent earlier
in the session. The Arca Airline index slipped nearly 2 percent.  The
company posted operating revenue of 5.1 billion for the quarter, a
4.7 percent rise from a year earlier.  Arpey said the company would
continue to focus on ways to boost its network, manage costs and drum
up additional revenue.  AMR ended the quarter with $5 billion in cash,
up sharply from the 3.3 billion in cash it had a year ago.
