*Project Title* Java Interface of a Content Based Image Retrieval System *Project Description* Advances in data storage and image acquisition technologies have enabled the creation of large image datasets. In order to deal with these data, it is necessary to develop appropriate information systems to efficiently manage these collections. One of the most common retrieval approach is the so-called Content-Based Image Retrieval (CBIR) systems. Basically, these systems try to retrieve images similar to a user-defined specification or pattern (e.g., shape sketch, image example). Their goal is to support image retrieval based on content properties, e.g., shape, color or texture. Two visualization techniques based on spiral and concentric rings for exploring query results in an CBIR system have been proposed and implemented in C++. Recently, a Java interface supporting these two visualization approaches was specified and partially implemented at VT. This project includes three tasks: finish this prototype, add a new visualization approach, and perform user experiments. *Language/technology skills* Java language. *Number of People* 1-2 *Project Resources* 1. http://portal.acm.org/ft_gateway.cfm?id=956874&type=pdf&coll=GUIDE&dl=ACM&CFID=14750161&CFTOKEN=31561618 2. http://portal.acm.org/ft_gateway.cfm?id=996485&type=pdf&coll=ACM&dl=ACM&CFID=22726963&CFTOKEN=2288951
