      This paper presents the conceptual and implementation models to
      the Middleware Layer of the Multiware Platform that is under
      development at UNICAMP---University of Campinas, Brazil.  This
      platform combines ideas from both the RM-ODP (Reference Model for
      Open Distributed Processing) and existent products, like ANSAware
      and CORBA (Common Object Request Broker Architecture).  The
      platform offers functionalities to support and facilitate the
      development, use and management of cooperative applications, like
      group decision support systems for GIS (Geographical Information
      Systems).
