Curriculum Vitae (short)

Maria Cecilia Calani Baranauskas

BSc, MSc, PhD

Summary

I am a staff member of the Institute of Computing, IC, at the State University of Campinas (UNICAMP), in Brazil.  I received my B.Sc. and M.Sc. in Computer Science and my Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, at UNICAMP. During 2001-2002 I spent a sabbatical year in the UK, doing research work in the Semiotics Special Interest Group (SSIG) at the Staffordshire University (School of Computing) and in the Applied Informatics with Semiotics (AIS) lab of the University of Reading (Dept. of Computer Science), UK.  My research interests have focused on issues in human-computer interaction, particularly investigating different formalisms (including Participatory Design and Semiotics) in the design and evaluation of user interfaces. I am leading several projects investigating the use of those formalisms for analysing, evaluating and designing domain-oriented applications (collaborative learning systems, geographical information systems, systems for work practice).  .
