I am going to present Culture to Chat or C2C - a bilingual chat that aims to support the communication between users learning a second language. The chat assists the user in creating messages in foreign language but to achieve this goal, it works with two resources: Machine Translator and Cultural Translator. While the Machine Translator provides instant translations to the original message, the Cultural Translator provides suggestions from the local cultural vocabulary to edit the translated phrase, motivating the user to create a contextualized translation and avoid the receiver’s misunderstanding. Such cultural Knowledge is from the Open Mind Common Sense Brasil Project (OMCS-Br), developed in collaboration with MediaLab-MIT. The C2C proposal intends to involve the user in a reflection process about the foreign language, taking into consideration his culture and contributing to the interpersonal communication. ============================================================== Possui doutorado em Física Aplicada São Carlos pela Universidade de São Paulo (1996). Foi professora visitante no media lab - MIT - Massachusetts Institute of Technology e atualmente é Professora Associada da Universidade Federal de São Carlos e Coordenadora do LIA - Laboratório de Interação Avançada. Tem experiência na área de Ciência da Computação, com ênfase em Interação Humano Computador, atuando principalmente nos seguintes temas: desenvolvimento de software culturalmente contextualizado, raciocínio de senso comum, Educação, Saúde, jogos educacionais e terapeuticos, usabilidade e acessibilidade de software e conteúdo (letramento). ============================================================== Organizadora: Profa.
