ABSTRACT
I will talk about one of the strong research topics at my
department and also about my own research to date. I will
include details of Heriot-Watt University and I will also
include additional information on the undergraduate,
post-graduate and research opportunities for Brazilian
citizens.

Nesta palestra falarei sobre uma das mais fortes áreas de
pesquisa em meu departamento com foco nos resultados do meu
grupo. Incluirei informações relevantes sobre a Universidade
assim como detalhes sobre as oportunidades em graduação,
pos-graduação e pesquisa para brasileiros.

I am currently a Lecturer at the School of Maths and
Computer Science (MACS) at the Heriot-Watt University,
Edinburgh, Scotland, United Kingdom.
I am particularly interested in :
• Evolutionary Robotics and Complex Adaptive Systems
• Biologically-inspired algorithms such as Artificial Neural
Networks, Artificial Immune Systems, Artificial Endocrine
Systems and Learning Classifier Systems
• Computational Neuroscience
• Data Mining and Machine Learning
I was a Pos-doctoral researcher at the Centre for
Computational Neuroscience and Robotics (CCNR) within the
Department of Informatics at the University of Sussex, England,
United Kingdom, from June 2005 to September 2008. I worked on
a EPSRC initiative multi-partner project called SECSE -
Spatially-Embedded Complex Systems Engineering, in collaboration
with the University of Leeds and the University College London.
I received my PhD in Computer Engineering in April 2005,
focusing on Computational Intelligence, Bio-inspired Algorithms
and Machine Learning, including Learning Classifier Systems,
Artificial Immune Systems, Artificial Endocrine Systems,
Artificial Neural Networks, Genetic Algorithms, and Robot
Autonomous Navigation and Control at the Department of Computer
Engineering and Industrial Automation DCA, Faculty of Electrical
and Computer Engineering FEEC, State University of Campinas
UNICAMP in São Paulo, Brazil.
